Teaching Modeling and Simulation - A Web and Case-Based Scenario

In: Summer Computer Simulation Conference 2001, San Diego, SCS.

Web-based and case-oriented training has become a meaningful supplement to traditional lectures and courses in a lot of scientific domains. Not only background knowledge is mediated by case-based training but also the application of knowledge to concrete problems is trained. This paper discusses the potentials and problems of applying case-oriented training to teach modeling and simulation. A framework for a web-based and case-oriented tutoring system, realized as a medical training program, is depicted, and its ideas and methods are transferred to the modeling and simulation area.
