Computer based modeling and simulation has a long history (for the world of computer science) as it started with the first computers available. Since then a plethora of principles, techniques, and elements have been invented, implemented, sometimes correctly evaluated and validated, and sometimes never been used again.
That's what we try to change with the plug'n simulate architecture. We consider this to be the pre-condition for a good support of any modeling and simulation workflow and in particular of the systems biology workflow comprising the application of computer based modeling and simulation techniques and wet lab data.
The presentation will show the state of the art in computer based modeling and simulation, relate various ongoing works to it, will explain what has been achieved so far, and will illustrate what we still have to do in the future.
