Pushing the limits of visual analytics to move the GeneView-project to the next level

Visual analytics claims to build the next level of information visualization and scientific visualization. In fact, currently its main contribution is to provide a toolbox of several views like (1) 2D views, (2) 2 1/2D views, (3) 3D views, (4) GIS data related 2D and 3D views, (5) graph based views, (6) text based views, (7) parallel coordinate views and (8) non-photorealistic rendering (NPR) views to name some of the common views. Also traditional visualizations from statistics are used like histograms, box plots, and heat-maps. Visual analytics implementations also rely on algorithms from machine learning, pattern recognition, and data mining.
The shared data model used in most cases is based on the model-view-controller (MVC) design pattern, which is a rather rigid and static one. This talk will introduce ways to build a new dynamic data model and thus extend the common MVC design pattern to a “Dynamic-MVC” (DMVC) design pattern. Also examples from two distinguished application areas will be presented to show the strength of the proposed DMVC design pattern.
