Track on Modelling and Simulation in Social and Organizational Domains

Barcelona, Oct. 4-6, 2006

Social and organizational sciences is a comparatively young, yet highly dynamic, application area of modelling and simulation. New ways of thinking about social and economic processes are introduced emphasizing the emergence of complex behaviour from relatively simple activities. Especially the upcoming of agent-based approaches during the 1990s propelled research on multi-level modelling and simulation of social processes. They facilitate formalizing and testing behavioral theories, the simulation of social phenomena like the emergence of norms, or the simulation of behavior in complex environments (e.g. traffic flows).

Being part of the European Modeling and Simulation Symposium 2006, the purpose of the track is to give an insight into results achieved and challenges still to be met of modelling and simulation in social and organizational domains.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to the areas listed below:

  • Modelling and Simulation of Traffic with a particular focus on individual-based approaches
  • Modelling and Simulation of Opinion Dynamics including electoral systems
  • Epidemic models emphasizing behavioral aspects (e.g. travelling)
  • Urban and regional dynamics, e.g. modelling informal dynamics of Megacities
  • Modelling and Simulation of Demographic, Social and Economic Conditions, e.g. by using Microsimulation approaches
  • Formation and Emergence of Social networks, Emergence of Norms, e.g. based on socio-psychological models
